6.2.5.80 SA - Rehabilitation Case Reviews

Summary

This topic explains the SA rehabilitation reviews. Phone reviews and reviews done by mail are covered in the referenced topics.

Policy reference: SS Guide 6.2.5.60 SA - Field Reviews, 6.2.5.70 SA - Mail Reviews

This topic covers the following:

  • 116 and 128 week post grant reviews,
  • SA reviews, and
  • referral to a social worker at review.

116 & 128 week post grant reviews

Recipients undertaking a rehabilitation program past week 104 are issued with a:

  • mail review after 116 weeks, which is the same as the 12 week review, AND
  • phone review at week 128, which is the same as the 26 week review.

SA reviews

Reviews of recipients in a vocational rehabilitation program do NOT:

  • require a TDR, NOR
  • examine the recipient's capacity for work.

All other factors are reviewed that may affect qualification for, and the rate of, SA.

Example: Income (section 8(1)-'income'), dependants, rent paid, continuing participation in the program, etc.

The reviews also ensure the recipient is still undertaking the program. The 196-week review is the final opportunity for alternative income support to be investigated for recipients who will be still in a rehabilitation program beyond 208 weeks.

Act reference: SSAct section 8(1)-'income'

Referral to social worker at review

Social workers can:

  • identify the need for, and provide referrals to, a range of services (see example 1), AND
  • provide advice, mainly in the form of a social assessment, to assess eligibility for payments (see example 2).

Example 1: Medical treatment, counselling or financial support.

Example 2: SA, NSA or DSP.

A referral can be made when a recipient:

  • is having difficulties accepting a decision to reject or cancel payment, AND/OR
  • requires advice on the adjustments to be made, OR
  • is:
    • in severe distress, OR
    • experiencing personal or family problems, OR
    • in financial hardship.

Act reference: SSAct section 667(3) A person is qualified for SA in respect of a period...
