4.4.7 Recipient Requests Cancellation of FTB

Requesting a cancellation

Generally, a recipient may request a cancellation of FTB instalment at any time. This allows recipients to choose another delivery method after they have started receiving FTB by fortnightly payments.

Explanation: They may choose to have their FTB entitlement paid as a lump sum at the end of the income year.

Act reference: FA(Admin)Act section 21(3) Request for cessation of instalment determination

Cancellation of FTB instalments

An instalment recipient may only ask to stop an instalment entitlement determination if the recipient and/or their partner (1.1.P.30) is not receiving:

  • an income support payment (social security pension (1.1.S.90) or benefit (1.1.S.60)), or service pension (1.1.S.30), or
  • DVA income support supplement.

If the recipient is receiving any of these payments, they can only be paid FTB by fortnightly instalments.

Act reference: FA(Admin)Act section 28B Variation of instalment entitlement determination where claim made for another payment type
