1.2.6 Jobs, Education & Training Child Care Fee Assistance (JETCCFA) - Description

Summary

JETCCFA is a payment made to approved child care services (1.1.A.90) on behalf of eligible families to reduce the cost of care at the time it is provided. It is paid in addition to CCB. The sum of both CCB and JETCCFA reduces a person's out-of-pocket expenses for approved child care per JETCCFA hour for each of their children in care.

JETCCFA applies for a specific number of hours in a week for each child of an eligible person and for a specified period. The number of hours each week and the period that JETCCFA applies is determined according to the nature and duration of the approved activities specified in the person's EPP (formerly activity agreement).

Objective of JETCCFA

JETCCFA aims to:

  • assist families with the cost of child care,
  • reduce barriers for parents receiving certain income support payments to participate in activities that will enable them make the transition to work, and
  • support parents in balancing work and family commitments.

Background information

The administration of JET child care payments to families transferred from the Australian Government FaCSIA to Centrelink on 3 July 2006. Since early 2008 JETCCFA is administered by the FAO within DHS on behalf of DEEWR.
