1.1.P.71 Payee (FTB)

Definition

For the purposes of FTB, the payee is the person who receives child support from the payer. The payee does not have to be the biological parent of the child.

Explanation: A grandparent may have the child in their care. While they may not have to take maintenance action, they may choose to commence a child support case, they would be referred to as the payee.

 

History

Before 1 July 2008, payees were referred to as 'resident parents' and before the Family Law Reform changes in 1996, they were known as 'custodial parents'.
