1.1.B.20 Bereavement claim, claim in substitution

Definition: bereavement claim

For the purposes of FTB, a bereavement claim refers to either a claim:

• in substitution for a deceased person, or
• for a deceased FTB or regular care child.

Bereavement claim: CCB

There are no bereavement provisions for CCB for the death of an eligible child.

Definition: claim in substitution

A claim can be made by an individual (1.1.I.90), in substitution for a deceased person who was eligible for FTB or CCB, regardless of whether the deceased person made a claim for FTB or CCB.

The circumstances of the deceased person are used to assess eligibility for FTB and CCB, not the circumstances of the applicant.

Explanation: The deceased person may not have claimed:

• FTB if they were intending to lodge a past period claim (1.1.P.60), or
• CCB if they were using registered care (1.1.R.20) or approved care (1.1.A.90) and intended to claim for a lump sum at the end of the financial year.
