Definition

For the purpose of CCB, approved absences are absences for specified reasons when a recipient has to pay for child care and is paid CCB, even though their child does not attend care at the time. Approved absences are in addition to the 30 allowable absences (1.1.A.70). CCB is payable for all approved absences. There is no limit on the number of approved absence days a recipient may claim providing they meet the following specifications.

Specified reasons

Specified reasons are:

  • an illness (with a medical certificate),
  • an outbreak of infectious disease, when the child is not immunised,
  • a parent being on a rotating shift or rostered day off,
  • a temporary closure of a school or a pupil free day,
  • a public holiday,
  • a period of local emergency,
  • shared custody arrangements due to a court order, consent order or parenting order, and
  • attendance at preschool.

Note: Absences (1.1.A.05) and additional absences (1.1.A.17) are applicable to services that have commenced operating under CCMS.
